DIY Screenprint (Christmas Tree)

I saw a couple of DIY screenprinting examples on pinterest and wanted to try it for quite a while now. Finally, the holiday season was here and we had the perfect occasion to do it. I followed this tutorial.
At the very end of this post, you´ll find some helpful lessons learned you might want to read before you start.

supplies

 put nylon in hoop

 trace your design (with a permanent pen!!)

 fill the hoop with mod podge leaving your design blank

let dry over night

 put some paint on the screen and spread it evenly (don´t forget to put a cardboard inside your shirt), carefully lift the screen et voilá!

 let it dry

 and here are our three matching christmas tree shirts

//Lessons Learned//

Use a permanent pen to trace your design otherwise your pen will transfer from your screen onto your shirt...

After laundering the pen disappeared and so did most of the glitter, leaving a turquoise shirt with turquoise tree. The design was hard to see. That´s why I re-did this one shirt with another color.

Also, glitter paint might look nice BUT there are some disadvantages: The glitter doesn´t go through the screen evenly and the glitter comes off when laundering and will spread on your shirt. I liked our glitter shirts a lot, but they did not last as long as the non-glitter ones.
